And I Rock Kentucky Blue… Jaxson Robinson Withdraws From Draft!

BYU’s Jaxson Robinson has withdrawn from the 2024 NBA Draft and will follow Coach Mark Pope to Kentucky.

The 21-year-old wing proved to be one of the most dangerous shooters in college basketball this season, quickly firing from deep range out of NBA-style actions with adaptable footwork and an intriguing bounce in his step. His shooting gravity was a key ingredient to Mark Pope and BYU’s Top-15 ranked offense, leading the team in scoring with 14.2 points per game on 35.4% 3FG (6.9 attempts per game, sixth most attempts in B12).

Jaxson received an invitation to the NBA Combine, where he showcased his skills in scrimmages and participated in numerous team workouts. After careful consideration, he made the difficult decision to return to school and play for Coach Mark Pope at Kentucky.

We connected with Jaxson to discuss his breakout season, appreciation for Coach Mark Pope, his continued development, what NBA guys he likes to study, and more.

Reflecting on college journey & breaking out at BYU

“My college journey has been very unique over my four-year career. Although my first two years didn’t go how I expected them to, I am forever grateful for every memory that was made. Coming into BYU for my junior year I obviously had so many people to prove wrong, but I also wanted to prove myself right. I have so much appreciation for Coach Pope and staff for taking me in and helping me develop into the player and person I am today. This past season meant everything to me and to be honored with the Big 12’s Sixth Man of the Year award was such a blessing.”

On continued development

“After a good first season at BYU, I knew there were improvements that needed to be made heading into my senior season. An area of improvement that I thought needed to be made was my consistency. That pertained to consistency of shooting, defense, and leadership. I think I made a huge jump in those areas from year one to year two. The thing that makes me most excited is knowing I have so much more I can give and I’m just now figuring it out.”

What aspects of your game do you think translate well to the NBA?

“I believe that my ability to space the floor and guard are two areas that will translate well from college to the pros.”

NBA players you study/learn from?

“During my college season, I usually like to watch film on players while they were still playing in college. Some of the players I watched were Brandon Miller at Alabama and Trey Murphy at Virginia. They both have similar body types to me and I think our games have a lot of similarities that I could try and replicate.”
